An Audrey Hepburn wedding look with a modern twist at The Brooklands Museum

Bright, funky florals don’t immediately conjure up Old Hollywood glamour… but by using them as a modern twist on a classic theme they can really bring your wedding to life! I adore this shoot for its contrasts; timeless fashion and vibrant styling touches – it’s all so gorgeous and the flowers are ahmaaaazing!

The shoot is all about glamorous vintage wedding inspiration with a modern twist. The Brooklands Museum is a very quirky venue with a retro atmosphere where garage doors, old petrol stations, vintage cars and old staircases make an interesting backdrop.

The modern twist is revealed through the wedding dress collection using the finest tulles, silks and laces as well as through the atmosphere of the decor featuring a delicate pastel colour palette (peach, white, gold, sage green) displayed on the cake, the table setting and the stationery.

Jenny Packham 2018 Bridal Collection

This post Jenny Packham 2018 Bridal Collection first appeared on The Wedding Community Blog

I am so excited to feature the fabulous new Jenny Packham 2018 bridal collection. I have made no secret of the fact that I am a massive fan of Jenny Packham wedding dresses, and the 2018 collection is incredible.

It features many of Jenny’s signature luxury embellishments and sequins that make Jenny Packham dresses so exquisitely unique; you can always tell a Jenny Packham dress!

Jenny Packham 2018 Bridal Collection - Magic Top

The 2018 collection is inspired by the novel The Falling, by Colin Thubron. The novel tells the story of journalist Mark Swabey’s fatal attraction to circus acrobat Clara the Swallow. The character of Clara – her exotic beauty, courage and love of freedom – is what inspired this season’s collection.

“Alone in the spotlight, a circus girl balances on the trapeze; a beautiful, mesmerising act of daring.”

Paying homage to an otherworldly romance is celestial trailing chiffon, flock tulle ruffles, bonded floral lace, oversized satin bows, tailored cropped jackets, embellished bodies and sculptured corsetry. Majestic ostrich feathers, voluminous ballerina skirts and high octane scarlet hues add theatrical drama to the collection.

Every one of these dresses dazzles. The eye-catching designs, meticulous beading, illusion necklines and pretty cap sleeves are yet again so feminine and elegant.

I usually choose three of my favourite dresses from a collection but this is so difficult with the Jenny Packham 2018 collection as I adore them all. So, I am going to talk about the dresses with the most embellished details (true to Jenny Packham’s unique style)…

Dare

Dare Wedding Dress from the Jenny Packham 2018 Bridal Collection
Dare

I dare you to look! If you are looking for a wedding dress adorned with beading and embellishments I’m sure you will fall in love with Dare. With every inch decorated with sequins, crystals and beads, you really will shimmer your way down that aisle. The cold shoulder detail offers a unique touch to this stunning dress.

Cadeau

Cadeau Wedding Dress from the Jenny Packham 2018 Bridal Collection
Cadeau

Meaning ‘gift’ in French, and what a gift Cadeau is. It even looks like a gift tied with a big bow! Crystals embellishment runs from the sheer illusion neckline right to the bottom, including the beautiful train. The deep plunging neckline finishes where the ‘bow’ starts and adds a touch of intrigue to this very flattering dress.

Euphoria

Euphoria

The Euphoria dress from the Jenny Packham 2018 collection is the epitome of her designs, and I love everything about it! Jenny was one of the first designers to introduce ‘coloured’ wedding dresses, and the barley colour of this dress is fabulous. You’ll feel a million dollars as you wow your husband to be and wedding guests in this full-on embellished number.

If you are looking for a Jenny Packham wedding dress then picking THE one from the 2018 collection may be a little difficult! You can see the full, stunning collection in the gallery below, and can find out more at www.jennypackham.com.

Durham Cathedral

Durham Cathedral

The historic city of Durham is famous for its cathedral, castle and picture-perfect setting by the River Wear, not to mention its first-class university, which attracts students by the hordes. And the good news is that where there are students, there is typically a plethora of bars, restaurants and other activities all awaiting us visiting hens!

A charming destination steeped in heritage, with glorious bridges and cobbled streets, Durham certainly offers hens something more quaint and compact than the much larger neighbouring cities of Newcastle to the north or York to the south.

The city is also the perfect base for hens keen to get out into the Durham countryside and enjoy something altogether more relaxing. Lucky for you, we’ve rounded up some of this fabulous location’s best bits, guaranteed to make your hen weekend one to remember…

where to stay

Ramside Hall

Ramside Hall

Durham is an affordable destination with a variety of options when it comes to overnight accommodation. You have stylish hotel staples in the heart of the city, such as Radisson Blu and the Marriott Hotel Royal County, and on the cheap and cheerful end of the scale, look out for the likes of Travelodge or Premier Inn.

Radisson Blu

Radisson Blu

Want to venture out of Durham for a slice of luxury? Look no further than Ramside Hall, a swish four-star hotel on the outskirts of the city set in 350 acres of stunning grounds, complete with an uber-modern spa and Fusion Restaurant.

what to do

Ramside spa

Ramside Hall

A river cruise on the Prince Bishop is the perfect way to soak up the city’s beautiful landmarks and serene surroundings. This tranquil escapade along the Wear lasts a full hour and includes a live commentary, with a sun deck and bar onboard to boot. Alternatively, explore the river at your leisure and hire your very own traditional rowing boats from Browns Boats – just make sure none of your hens drop their oars!

Ebony Champagne Bar

Ebony Champagne Bar

If sublime pampering is more of a squad goal for the weekend, the city is close to a number of fabulous spas including our earlier top accommodation pick, Ramside Hall. This is the ultimate spa resort, with a thermal suite and five pools – including a stunning, Insta-worthy infinity pool.

Is a live performance your vice? Then make a date with the Gala Theatre, which plays host to everything from music and dance to comedy and opera. The perfect outing to kick-start your weekend celebrations and switch things up from the usual bar crawl.

Gala Theatre

Gala Theatre

One of the best things about Durham city is the ease with which you can escape into the countryside and explore some fantastic historical sites. Finchale Priory – situated on the banks of the River Wear in a captivating wooded setting – is just one of these and it’s our top choice for a girly picnic with a view.

where to eat and drink

The Boat Club

The Boat Club

The lively Walkergate complex boasts a cluster of stylish bars, ideal for socialising al fresco in the summer months, come day or night. Champagne Bar by Ebony is a chic destination if you’re after a glass of vintage bubbly or two, meanwhile My House Bar and Kitchen is the place to go to experience some rather eclectic cocktails – look out for its candy cupboard selection featuring the candy floss martini, sherbet melon and tutti frutti daiquiri. Missoula is another favourite – a fashionable bar playing a winning mix of pop, RnB and dance music, with not one but two outdoors terraces. And when it comes to partying the night away – head to popular nightclub Loveshack.

Away from the Walkergate area, you might also want to check out The Head of Steam for its buzzy atmosphere, the Whisky River Bar overlooking, yes you’ve guessed it, the river; or next door – The Boat Club, with panoramic views over the medieval Elvet Bridge.

Zen Fusion

Zen Fusion

Dining-wise, you’ll find a variety of cuisines catered for too – highlights include the swanky Zen Asian Fusion with its authentic street and market inspired Thai dishes, perennial favourite La Tasca for a spot of tapas and sangria, and Bella Mamma, sure to appease your pasta and pizza cravings. A fine dining experience, meanwhile, comes courtesy of the contemporary Restaurant DH1, think delicacies such as roe deer, salt aged beef, ox tongue and sardines on toast and you’ll get an idea of what to expect from its tasting menus.

Finchale Priory

Finchale Priory

So ladies, don’t be fooled by this unassuming city. Durham might be small, but it’s brimming with charm and iconic landmarks, and has lots to offer hens seeking something a little bit different from the bright lights and hullabaloo of the bigger cities in the north. Hopefully, our guide will have given you a tiny glimpse into the possibilities for your impending celebrations!

Industrial Rose Gold & Dove Grey Greenery Wedding

Industrial Rose Gold Dove Grey Greenery Wedding http://hbaphotography.com/

I think today’s wedding ticks all of the boxes. Beautiful style, exquisite outfits, an industrial venue of dreams and a heck of a lot of love.

WWW readers Laurie and Owen tied the knot on the 21st June 2017 at The West Mill in Derbyshire. Relaxed and elegant was order of the day and they totally smashed it. What with the dreamy rose gold and dove grey colour palette, greenery laden florals and fun touches such as the photo booth. I can totally relate to Laurie wanting to create much of the décor herself. The calligraphy and signage she absolutely aced and the chiffon backdrop was certainly worth the time investment. It all looked SO rad.

The images really are breathtaking here today and I am sure that the couple are over the moon that they booked HBA Photography to capture their day. I mean the whole bridal party looked so gorgeous and carefree too. Laurie donned a long lace sleeved Pronovias gown, Owen was suited and booted in Next ,while the maids wore long dove grey dresses. There are so many wedding ideas and inspirational touches here today WWWers.

THE PROPOSAL | 2nd July 2016 at The Aqueduct at Chatsworth.

It was a complete surprise; Owen even managed to set the camera up and film the whole proposal, which was amazing to see after!

I’d just come back from a girls holiday and the other girls had been asking if they thought Owen would propose anytime soon; to which I had laughed and said no I don’t think he’s too keen on the whole idea. Little did I know he was out buying the ring whilst I was away!!

THE VISION | Relaxed and elegant styling with an industrial edge. We chose a colour palette of dove grey and rose gold with a focus on greenery and foliage.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We both knew that we wanted to just get on with getting married, we weren’t into the idea of a long engagement, it just wasn’t for us!  We looked at three or four venues prior to finding ‘the one’, which were all lovely but just didn’t feel quite right for us, I remember asking friends ‘how do you know it’s the right venue’ and they just said ‘you will know’ and honestly that’s exactly how we felt.

There were many spreadsheets at hand that I got to geek out on and meticulously keep, which I really enjoyed. There is nothing more satisfying than ticking things off a list!

THE VENUE | The West Mill. As soon as Chrissie showed us around we were blown away it was just perfect. A little quirky, exposed bricks and finished beautifully. After we had seen the very first floor I was already so sure this was the one!

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress by Pronovias.
Cathedral length veil by Joyce Jackson.
Earrings – Bride’s mother’s wedding earrings.
Bracelet by Ivory & Co.
Shoes by Kurt Geiger.

FINDING THE DRESS | This was one of the hardest decisions to make, I think its because as much as I said I was open to trying any style dress on, deep down I knew I wanted lace and I was pretty sure I wanted sleeves. But I kept an open mind; which I think is the key as some styles I would never have tried on but I did really like.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | After lots of searching for the perfect suit we found exactly what Owen was looking for in Next. The shirt he wore was by Charles Tyrwhitt and he had this monogrammed with initials in the same colour as the bridesmaid dresses to just add that extra something special.

Suit by Next.
Monogrammed shirt by Charles Tyrwhitt.
Pocket Square by T.M Lewin.
Shoes by Next.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Owen’s sister Amelia read a Bob Marley poem for us that we chose, which was just lovely, we aren’t into traditional gushing love poems so this one really worked for us. And sticking with a theme here our first dance was ‘One Love’ by Bob Marley.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had five bridesmaids. Three of my best friends, my cousin and my sister-in-law, who all got on so well and were just amazing throughout.

The girls dresses were from Fame & Partners but I altered the style of them slightly as originally they were an extreme V neckline, which wasn’t quite what we were looking for.

THE FLOWERS | Dean & Co, Eastwood. Flowers were something that we were a little unsure about as neither of us know much about flowers and we weren’t really sure what we wanted. But when I went to Dean & Co armed with my pinterest board and a rough idea of mainly foliage and only white flowers they saw my ideas and worked their magic.

THE CAKE | Vie for Vegan. Owen’s sister Amelia creates awesome gluten free, vegan cakes so it was no questions we would be having her bake it.  Owen is gluten free and I’m vegan so to get a delicious cake we can both eat is amazing.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | HBA Photography. I had been looking on Facebook quite a while ago and saw some amazing photos of a wedding and thought I must remember these guys if we get married. So as soon as we booked the venue HBA was the first port of call alongside our videographer. HBA worked so hard on the day and we now have so many wonderful memories of the day!

YOUR VIDEOGRAPHER | Our Wedding Videographers. Such a similar story to our photographers, we had seen so many of Geoff’s videos from weddings on social media and we knew we needed to get him on board straight away to get the perfect video of our day.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR |
I knew I wanted to be really hands on with the creative side of the wedding and being as headstrong as I am I knew I had to do it by myself with little help, except from my Dad. He painted the chalkboards for the place settings and I did all the calligraphy and signage myself. He spent hours doing so many bits and bobs for the wedding. The backdrop we set up the day before; pleating each section of chiffon – I can’t tell you how long it took to get it right!

THE ACCOMMODATION | Hayeswood Lodge, Stanley Common. This beautiful barn conversion was stunning! Dan the owner was so amazing and so accommodating. It was the perfect relaxed setting for me, the bridesmaids and my parents to chill the night before the wedding. Drinking prosecco, eating lots and having a good old gossip was just what I needed to put myself into a relaxed mood prior to getting married. My Dad was well and truly outnumbered, but he embraced it.

THE PHOTO BOOTH | Oh! Photobooth. Was such a fun addition to the wedding, looking over the pictures the next day was hilarious!  We cannot recommend them enough, such a fantastic array of props and a cool looking, non-traditional open photo booth too.

THE HONEYMOON | New York!! We are a little last minute when it comes to holidays by nature and our honeymoon was no exception. Less than a week before our wedding we decided it was time to start planning the honeymoon, we went into Virgin Holidays and told them we would like to book a honeymoon to which the ladies were really excited and asked when we were getting married, I don’t think they were expecting us to say in less than a week and we’d like to go straight after, but needless to say we sorted it then and there. We stayed at the most amazing hotel with a view of the famous New York City skyline and the Hudson River, it truly was an incredible holiday.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The ceremony itself was just amazing, it felt like we were the only two people in the room. Surprisingly I wasn’t even nervous walking down the aisle, (which I had been so worried about) I was just so excited to be getting married to Owen!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | After all the planning we felt ready to relax and just take in the day and had the attitude of what happens happens, I cant control it, and that is the best advice we could give to anyone on their wedding day is just relax and take everything in! Oh and remember to get some of the evening food and snacks as I was so busy dancing that I forgot… Owen did not!

For some couples, there’s no better setting for their big day than their home. Given that there is space, we can see the attraction – a place that the couple feel comfortable in and know inside out, the ability to style the wedding exactly as they wish and the opportunity to party late into the night. What’s not to love?

Favouring an at home for these very reasons, today’s real wedding couple Katie and Jordan planned a traditional church ceremony followed by a marquee wedding at their house in Cuddington.

Now people, don’t let anyone ever tell you a wedding marquee can’t be glamorous because Katie and Jordan, with the help of some talented suppliers, absolutely aced the styling. They transformed the plain white canvass into a luxurious setting complete with opulent blooms, chic mirrored décor and gorgeous ghost style chairs.

We also have to say that we’re totally in love with Katie’s big day look; from that super-pretty Ian Stuart gown to her pale blue M&S shoes – pure top-to-toe perfection!

With images by Jess Yarwood Photography.

katie says: We got engaged in June 2015 while on our first holiday as a family after having our son, Jenson. We were in Portugal and went to one of our favourite restaurants, Piri Piri. I was already suspicious as family were acting strange! Jordan had picked the ring himself and it was perfect fit – everything, we celebrated with champagne!

A Cheshire Wedding at Home (c) Jess Yarwood (11)

We set the date for Saturday 8th July 2017. Our ceremony was at St John’s church, Norley, followed by marquee reception at our home in Cuddington.

We both wanted a marquee for the reception as we felt it would be more personal would give us control over everything. It also meant that we could carry on partying as long as we wanted, and could invite as many as we wanted!

Jordan and I had attend a lot of marquee weddings and so we wanted to make sure that ours stood out. We wanted it to look classy, glam and luxurious and so we picked a white, grey and silver colour scheme.

A Cheshire Wedding at Home (c) Jess Yarwood (28)

My wedding dress Paradis was by designer Ian Stuart. I got it from Maria Modes in Macclesfield. After trying on numerous dresses in numerous shops this dress just stood out as it was completely different to all the others!

I picked a pair of blue shoes from Marks & Spencer. I wanted to be able to wear them again after the wedding – which I have done many times already!

Lucinka Hodnett took care of my makeup for the big day and So Glamorous, based in Northwich, styled my hair.

Jordan wore blue suit with a grey tweed waistcoat, silver tie and tan shoes, all from Maria Modes’ menswear department. The groomsmen had suits to match and Jenson also wore a matching suit to his daddy.

My bridesmaids wore beautiful grey, full-length dresses from ASOS. Our little girl Erica wore a dress by Paz Rodriguez with matching shoes.

On the day of the wedding we travelled to church in a white Rolls Royce Ghost and matching white Range Rover from Cheshire Luxury Cars.

Our chosen photographer was Jess Yarwood, and we would absolutely recommend her to other couples. She makes you feel so at ease and is fantastic at her job! She has done shoots for us in the past and will do so in the future!

My wedding flowers were put together by my friend Jess Clarke. In my bouquet I had peonies, thistles, hydrangeas, wax flowers, lavender and succulents.

We had the same types of flowers to decorate the marquee, along with mirrored table numbers and plan, blossom trees and tea lights. All the marquee décor was provided and set up by our amazing marquee provider, Tent and Garden.

As favours we gave our guests mini bottles of sloe gin.

Our wedding cake was a four-tier creation made by Supa Dupa Cakes in Davenport. It was grey with white ruffle and flower detailing and consisted of chocolate, lemon, sponge and fruit layers. Every bit of it got eaten on the night – poor Jordan didn’t get any at all!

Our food during the day was supplied by Outside Food, based in Conwy. We had amazing canapés of salt and chilli squid and prawns, pork belly squares, duck hoisin filo, tandoori salmon and cous cous spoons, goats cheese arancini, lamb makhani tacos, smoked salmon and cream cheese. Main was fillet steak served with dauphinoise potatoes and trio of peas, and dessert was Malteser parfait for the men and lemon panna cotta for the ladies.

The evening food was served from a vintage French Citroen van by a company called Smohk and Mischief. They served up salt and chilli ribs, puled pork baps, mac and cheese and salad.

Angus Smellie at Aston Jones did the bar for us.

Entertainment-wise, we had the Undercover band do an acoustic set during reception and then they performed at night too! They were fantastic! We have seen them at hunt balls previously and came highly recommended! They played until 2am!

We also had a double vodka luge ice sculpture in evening, which was a huge success and great fun!

Our home in Cheshire was a beautiful setting for our special day helped by the weather! We would highly recommend Tents and Gardens to anyone considering a marquee wedding. They were amazing and dealt with everything for me – it was like having my own planner!

I absolutely loved the whole wedding day. The food and evening party were fantastic! I danced all night and could have kept going for much later than 2am! Having all our friends and family in one place to celebrate with us was also great!

We are going on honeymoon in the new year as we had our baby girl, Erica in January and so we wanted to wait until she is one before we leave her and our nearly three-year-old son Jenson, and head off the Dubai and the Maldives.

My top tip to other Brides Up North would be – enjoy every minute and have whatever you want, don’t try to please everyone!
