I know summer weddings are incredibly popular, but I just love the feel of Ellen and Ben’s personal wedding with an autumnal feel in Ireland. The couple married on the 15th October last year at Cloughjordan House in Tipperary in Ireland.
Ellen and Ben first met in Bordeaux, France. They were both studying abroad on their Erasmus year. ‘Ben was studying accounting and finance and French, I was studying law and French,’ says Ellen. ‘We both chose Bordeaux for our third year abroad and met on the first day when Ben and his flatmate hosted the first Erasmus party. The couple dated for ten years before getting engaged.
When it came to her wedding dress, Ellen chose a Moravia crop top and Bordeaux skirt by Willowby by Watters. ‘I took it as a sign that it was meant to be,’ says Ellen. Bordeaux is of course where Ben and her first met. Her veil was ‘Claremont’ by Joyce Jackson. Her vintage style earrings were from Dirty Fabulous in Dublin.
It was very important to Ellen and Ben that their venue suited the personal and relaxed wedding they wanted to create. ‘We chose a lovely country house that has beautiful ivy covering the front of the house,’ says Ellen. ‘The style was very autumnal, my favourite season.’
According to Ellen, they did not have a wedding planner, but plenty of ‘wedding helpers.’ As Ellen and Ben are based in London, her parents went to visit venues on their behalf. They sent them reports and pictures from their trips.
For the flowers for their relaxed and personal wedding, Tina from The Wild Bunch created the bouquets for Ellen and her bridesmaids, as well as the one for the ceremony table. Clougjordan House provided seasonal flowers for the tables from their garden. Ellen’s aunt and her friend did the rest of the flowers for the ceremony room, including bunches of flowers in pumpkins.
Ben wore a green tweet suit from Walker Slater in London’s Convent Garden with a gold knitted tie. ‘He wanted something a bit different’ says Ellen. ‘Plus I think he’s trying to be more and more Irish every day, so this was a good stepping stone.’
Ellen’s sisters and bridesmaids, Cassie and Beth wore dresses by Choklate which they found in Coco Boutique on Clarendon Street in Dublin. Ben’s sister Olivia wore a long dark green dress from Gorgeous Couture.
For their wedding cake, the couple chose a five tiered cake from Sheridans in Dublin, which apparently went down very well.
According to Ellen, the highlight of the day was that it wasn’t just a day! ‘We started the celebrations when we arrived back to Baldoyle Road on the Wednesday night, had a family dinner on Thursday night in Cloughjordan, and had friends and family join us for drinks in a lovely pub on Friday night,’ explains Ellen. After a great day on Saturday, they had a hog roast with games and a table quiz organised by both their Dads on Sunday.
On their big day itself, they asked Ellen’s family (who are very musical) to play music for both the Israeli and Irish dancing that they did.
Ellen and Bens personal wedding day was photographed by Ivana Patarcic Photography. ‘Ivana was amazing,’ says Ellen. ‘She was always smiling and captured all of our guests smiling which is what we wanted.’
