Inspired by romance with a Scottish/Italian twist, Jillian and Luciano brought together everyone they love to start the next chapter in their lives. Their spring wedding was full of our favourite things – love & laughter, blush peonies & delicious sweeties, single malt whisky & Mr Big! And best of all, Jillian’s mum recovered from major heart surgery in time to be there with them on the day. In their own words – “life doesn’t get much better than that!”.
Love at first sight?
We lived in the same area growing up and although we didn’t go to school together, our paths kept crossing! We then ended up working for the same organisation, so it naturally just happened… fate! Luciano proposed on Christmas morning, three years after we first started dating. We were sat around the Christmas tree, it was perfect!
We were inspired by…
Romance with a Scottish/Italian twist. Luciano’s mum and dad own a sweet shop, so we named our tables after sweetie names and the top table after the shop which is ‘The Bluebird’. We had a sweetie table for guests to tuck into, which tied everything in. For our favours we had mini Glenlivit whisky for the men and Italian bombonieres with love bird salt and pepper shakers for the ladies – this tied in both the Scottish and Italian cultures.
I love instagram, so the We Fell In Love instagram page was a hit for me for wedding inspiration!
Tell us about your venues…
Our service took place at Holy Cross Parish, near where we grew up. Holy Cross is breathtaking and very grand! It is definitely one of those churches where you gasp as you walk in – it is beautiful! Our priest (Father Bradley) was wonderful. He made us feel so relaxed and even welcomed some of Luciano’s family in Italian. He made it really personal to us.
For our reception, I wanted to go from the grand/dramatic church service to feeling close and relaxed with everyone. Lochgreen was perfect! The room has beautiful crystal chandeliers, a grand piano and a cosy log fire (it can still be cold in Scotland in May!) But yeah, it pretty much ticked all the boxes. The hotel’s gardens are so well groomed. We had our photographs taken down by the old golf course and everyone was able to go out and enjoy the scenery looking onto the beach. I felt like we were all in our own little bubble!
We have a bit of a crush on your flowers!
Hayley (at Little Botanica) is so knowledgeable and friendly. I felt really relaxed from our first meeting.
I love flowers so I was very indecisive and kept changing my ideas. For my bouquet we decided on blush peonies, blush stock, astilbe and soft roses. We trimmed this with a champagne gold ribbon to tie in with the bridesmaid dresses. For the bridesmaids, I decided on simple (but really effective) hydrangea posies and for the flower girls, Hayley made up beautiful flower girl wands and delicate flower crowns of gypsophila. So cute!
How did you choose your photographer?
We had been recommended to use Mirrorbox via a few friends and their work is so eye catching. I really liked the relaxed vibe of Sequoia’s work as I didn’t want the ‘traditional/staged’ type of photographs.
We have some beautiful photographs of not only Luciano and I, but of our families and friends! We are so happy!
And how did it feel to have the day filmed?
Simon and his team at Boda are amazing! They ensure that they don’t impact on your day at all. We really didn’t notice them being around ! I would say this is something that Luciano and I are so happy with booking and would recommend to other couples!
When watching it back you go through every emotion again and you remember exactly how you felt at certain points throughout the day. It really has captured the most precious moments for us!
Can we take a moment to talk about your (very beautiful!) dress?
I knew that I wanted something quite relaxed but still wanted to feel like a bride. I felt really amazing in my Stewart Parvin dress. It was full Chantilly lace, which I loved, with a sweetheart neckline. I even loved the name of the dress ‘Falling Away With You’. Very romantic!
And we love Luciano’s look too!
Luciano and his ushers all wore tuxedos. Luciano had his tux customed made, with both of our initials and wedding date embroidered inside. I loved this so much.
What was the soundtrack to your day?
We love music. We wanted to tie in both Scottish and Italian themes to our wedding, so we managed to do this through the musicians. Being Scottish, I had a piper play whilst entering/exiting the church. I love the sound of the bagpipes playing – it’s so traditional.
Our string trio played the most romantic songs throughout our church service. They set the tone to our wedding day, I think everyone was near enough crying! Roberto Enzo then played throughout our wedding meal. Roberto really got the party started. It was the best feeling to hear everyone singing in-between courses and we even had a conga! It was fab!
Our band, Classic Noir turned it up a notch! Our first dance was by ‘Mr. Big – To be with you’. This is our favourite song, so it made sense to have it as our first dance!
Tell us something surprising about your day…
My mum had been unwell – she ended up having major heart surgery three weeks before the wedding. It was an emotional time for us all as we didn’t know if she would be recovered in time to attend the wedding. Thankfully she battled on through and was by my side. I am so grateful!
There is no right or wrong way to plan a wedding. Just go with your gut feeling when making decisions. You might feel like its all getting too much at times or your plans haven’t worked out how you thought they initially would, but honestly, everything comes together! It makes you that little bit stronger as a couple. Enjoy every moment!
Scotland is home. We always joked when we first met that we were both ‘home birds’. All of our friends would talk about moving elsewhere in the world to live but we were the complete opposite!
What’s the one truly unforgettable thing about your wedding day?
The love & laughter! It was two families becoming one on the day and it felt amazing!
We’re not crying, you’re crying… What an amazing day! Christina x
