This wedding is everything!!  Stunning venues that speak for themselves with beautiful styling and a small but perfectly formed wedding party bursting with love and joy. All perfectly captured by Emma Stoner Photography. As always, supplier links are at the bottom of the post…

The proposal

Mark in Brighton in the evening, after walking through The Lanes in the afternoon, looking in jewellers shops to assess the kind of ring I liked without giving the game away.

Where it all happened

The Glazebrook Hotel was the venue for the pre night with friends, getting ready and the evening reception. The ceremony was at Haldon Belvedere.

The reason for the ceremony venue was initially because it was close to my parents and my father was ill when we booked it, and also because my best friend got married there 10 years before.  My Dad didn’t make the wedding in the end,  but the venue meant something to us, and in my mind he gave us that focus, rather than choosing a generic venue.

Glazebrook is a fantastic quirky intimate hotel with fabulous food and service, we stayed there a year before to check it out and loved it.  The staff there are really special and they couldn’t do enough. The decor I knew would be perfect for the photos of getting ready with my mum and friends.  It is very atmospheric at night and as we had a small number to the evening reception it was perfect. We filled the hotel which was great!

What they wore

I wore a beaded dress from a Phase Eight. My mother had found it online and sent the photo.  I took her for a surprise fitting in St Christopher’s Place in London, and it was the only dress I tried. It fit like a glove, and my mother and I then customised it to make even more special.  Everyone else just had the dress code as glamorous. My shoes were Freya Rose, custom made. I drew silver roses on a short white leather jacket  to wear in case it got cold outside.

The theme

I wanted people to feel comfortable and glamorous in their own style.  My own choice of colours were ivory, silver and pale grey to match my dress. Mark wore navy. The flowers were autumnal. I wanted elegant and slightly vintage to match the settings. The wedding was scented with Jo Malone London, English Pear and Freesia room spray, and diffusers, and the guests were given the same candles.

The flowers

Laura Hingston Flowers was the florist. She did the bouquet, buttonholes and all arrangements at the venue. I chose her because of her sheer artistry and flair. I left the detail to her after discussion that it was going to be natural, seasonal, and a dark to light colour from copper beech to ivory, with old English roses, and wild flowers.

The cake

We had white cupcakes with camellia and gardenia flowers in icing as decoration, so people could easily transport them home in special hand drawn white bags by me.  A colleague from work made them and she is so talented!

What they ate and drank

Food and drink was provided by the caterers Bon Gout at Haldon Belvedere who served beautiful canapés in the afternoon, with prosecco and drinks from Majestic. The evening was a fabulous a la carte at Glazebrook Hotel.  We gave miniature hand designed labelled bottles in decanted Forest Dry Autumn gin, and heart shaped godminster cheese.

Emma Stoner, who is gifted adding a dimension to the wedding that makes it so memorable! We also gave the kids disposable cameras.

The party

After the afternoon in the gorgeous gardens and views of Haldon Belvedere, just a fabulous supper and drinks in the cocktail lounge back at the hotel.

The honeymoon

We went to the Amalfi Coast to Praiano to Hotel Angelina for a week on the Monday morning after leaving Devon on the Sunday and back to London that evening.

Favourite part of the day?

People said take time out and we had a short break back at the hotel before the evening reception to reflect, but the best was greeting all the guests post ceremony and remembering why we invited them and sharing so many memories, with so much laughter and smiles.

Advice to others?

Details do matter if they matter to you, and when people notice it makes all the attention to detail worthwhile.

Take time to be together quietly on the day.
