1. TAKE YOUR OWN MAKEUP ARTIST
“As an experienced professional within the industry I am often questioned on the benefits of taking your hair and makeup artist out as part of your destination wedding. As with everything there are pros and cons but I firmly believe that the pros always outweigh the cons. With over nine years wedding experience my attention and services have been focused on destination weddings over the last few years due to a rising demand. Having attended a number of different weddings all over the world, a destination one sets itself apart through its general atmosphere and vibe and they are definitely some of my favorite ones to work on. The main advantages of taking your own makeup artist are:
- Being reputable and someone you can trust
- Familiar with your weddings and customs they can infuse that with the theme or local culture of you wedding destination
- Experience working with your skin type and tones that they can enhance with all the relevant trends
- The lack of language barrier which means communication and understanding of what you want is understood
- They are specialists in this field
The main concern most brides have about taking their artist abroad is the cost. However this is easily remedied by booking in advance which is the step most of my previous brides have taken to ensure that it is cost effective. When advising potential clients I always ask my brides to judge how important their hair and makeup is for their big day. If it’s at the top of the list next to their dress then being able to hire a professional who will provide you with the services you want as well as peace of mind is key as settling is not an option.
2. USE LONG LASTING PRODUCTS
As an artist myself I believe that when taking an artist with you they also need to have experience of destination weddings as they are so different. There are many factors to take into account. When I work with any of my brides abroad I tailor my kit to take factors like the climate into account. My makeup is designed to last sixteen hours when I do weddings in the UK and I ensure that this is the case abroad also. Some of my favourite brands when doing destination weddings are:
3. CAREFUL PREPARATION & APPLICATION
I love using beauty elixirs and prepping sprays to ensure the skin is in the perfect condition before applying any makeup. Skin preparation is key to ensure long lasting flawless makeup. With my makeup looks, I keep it very fresh and flawless as I want to create the best version of my client whilst still keeping the look in line with the theme of the wedding. Application is also key, getting the right coverage is so important and this is when having a professional makes all the difference. With my brides, one thing that constantly comes back as positive feedback is how long their makeup lasted. The last thing any bride wants to do on their wedding day is to worry about touch ups!
4. HAVE A MAKEUP TRIAL
Destination weddings are a beautiful experience for all involved. Many brides, in retrospect, wish they had taken someone with them because their look, whether it be hair or make up, did not turn out as expected. As with all weddings I always recommend that brides should research their artist beforehand. It is also important to have a trial with any artists that you are considering as this ensures that you can go through your requirements as well as any finer details of the wedding, ensuring that you have the day of your dreams.
