Malcesine Destination Wedding, Italy

Lauren and Jack travelled to the north of Italy to marry in a picturesque town called Malcesine. The couple always had Italy in mind for their celebration and when they started to investigate, the Lake Garda area really stood out- as you’ll see from Barney Walters‘s amazing images! Lots more from Lauren below on their big day and planning, but first take a trip with us to Malcesine…

“We have been together for 10 years- since I was 16 and Jack 17, so we are childhood sweethearts. We got married in northern Italy in a small town called Malcesine. We knew we always wanted to go abroad to get married, and we had always dreamt of Italy. After a few google and Pinterest searches, Lake Garda stood out. We got in touch with Pam from Romantic Weddings on Lake Garda and booked to go out and meet her the year before our wedding. After so much internet research the place was exactly how I imagined it to be, but even better, and we both instantly fell in love with it. We had originally planned on viewing a number of venues for the ceremony but after Pam shown us the terrace at Malcesine Castle, it took our breath away and we knew it felt right to get married here so didn’t look at any other venues.

When we visited the year before we chose to have the reception in a restaurant in another part of the lake, but a few months before our wedding it closed down. We were left to pick a venue for the reception from photographs and recommendations from our wedding planner. We trusted her that the Garden of Pizzeria Al Cervo was our best option and she was right – it was actually what I had always had in my mind before we started planning; a rustic outdoor area surrounded by olive trees. I believe that things happen for a reason, and I think our day would have been completely different if we would have ended up with the first restaurant.

There was no way we would have had the wedding of our dreams without Pam from Romantic Weddings on Lake Garda. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Jack left the style/theme part to me. I wanted everything to be simple and classic. I didn’t want to look back at our wedding after a couple of years and things to be dated so we tried to stay away from ‘themes’. Our tables where lined with fresh olive branches and white flowers which complemented the restaurant surroundings perfectly.

The best decision was definitely the destination. Just being in the most beautiful location with all our family and friends was perfect. Once we arrived in Italy, all the wedding stress and nerves disappeared in an instant, which allowed us to enjoy every part of our wedding to the full. For me, a moment that will stay with me forever is being in the vintage fiat 500, both arriving at the castle with my sister, and leaving with my husband. As we drove through the narrow streets, our driver, Paolo, beeped the horn while locals and tourists applauded and congratulated us. The happiness I felt was surreal. For Jack, waiting on top of the castle terrace with the sun shining with all of our guests and then watching Lauren walk down the aisle was the most memorable moment. All our hard work towards the lead up to the wedding felt completely worth it. My advice is to not let the planning consume you. I stressed over certain decorations and silly trivial things that went completely unnoticed on the day. I think it is more important to make sure you have a good time with the people you love and make amazing memories to treasure forever.”
