Millennial Bride Tribe

If we learnt anything from The Spice Girls – and we learnt plenty – it’s that a) platform boots will always be a look and b) girl power is forever. Today’s lookbook shoot totally embodies both of these essential life lessons!

Super talented wedding ‘tog Sophie Lake teamed up with the fabulous shiny new bridal boutique Halo & Wren to shoot the stylish bridal editorial that the world has been crying out for. They wanted to create a lookbook for the millennial bride who wants to swap fuss for fashion and formality for pure fun.

“Relaxed girl power is the essential vibe of the entire shoot. Having two brides conveys more of a message of power and friendship – I want brides to think of their friends when they see the images.”

Well, viva forever to that, hey?!

I adore the relaxed vibes of this shoot, with the gorgeous locations and the use of natural light. Without being too starchy or forced, the two brides look totally chill. Wedding dress shopping can be so stressful, but what’s important to remember about it all is that comfort is key – you need a dress/jumpsuit/separates/powersuit that you can dance, eat and drink the night away in, whilst feeling totally incredible in as well. ‘Comfortable’ often sounds like a bad word in terms of bridal, conjuring up images of slouchy jersey and sweatpants (and hey, if that’s your thing, you go gal). But this shoot shows how you can be totally comfortable in your wedding dress, whilst owning it as well!

Jemma, the owner of Halo & Wren, chose Marquise Bridal dresses and silky separates as the focus of this shoot:

“She’s known for their cult following and always embodies the modern bride in her designs. They’re for the bride who ‘gets it’, who understands the vibe. Our models Daryll and Emily totally brought this to life, bringing something very edgy and empowering to the shoot.”

So, let’s talk all about that vibe, shall we? We’ve got gorgeous, bright and full flower crowns with giant-headed blooms that are giving us serious Frida Kahlo vibes. The make-up is super-relaxed and feminine, with bold pops of colour on the eye and smoky metallics, coupled with loose and gorgeous waves, chunky braids and low ponytails. To accessorise, we’ve got giant statement earrings: turquoise tassel earrings, gold drop cactus earrings (YES), and chunky silver boho rings glistening with semi-precious stones.

The shoes – such an underestimated part of the outfit but HOIK that dress up to dance and you need to show off some fab footwear – are seriously impressive, featuring rose gold peep toe boots, pink satin mules and orange suede platform ankle boots. (I am so in love!)

Finally, the jackets. Bridal jackets have swept the nation recently and whilst we’re all about eschewing the trend-led here at Way Out Wedding, this trend can happily stay. The gorgeous Daryll and Emily are draped in oversized denim, hand painted leather and bright pops of colour in suede bikers.

I just love the pared-back shots in this – the shot of Daryll standing in the middle of the old high street is INCREDIBLE, and Emily perching on that skateboard is just so cool it’s unreal!
