Relaxed Country House Wedding

Stephanie and Matthew’s romance began on a school music trip to Italy and since then they’ve been inseparable. We love everything about their relaxed country house wedding. The Scottish weather behaved perfectly allowing their outdoor ceremony and canapés and ice-cream on the lawn. Be inspired…

How did you two meet and become engaged?

The two of us were at the same school, a year apart. We started speaking on a school music trip to Italy in 2007 and have been together ever since.

We got engaged whilst on holiday in 2016 when Matt got down on one knee in the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

We were inspired by…

We were hoping to achieve a balance of elegance and fun. After the ceremony, the guests had drinks on the lawn and rather than canapés, we decided to have an ice-cream cart.

In the run up to the wedding, we spent a lot of time on Pinterest and We Fell in Love looking for ideas and made our own personalised table plan (each table was named after a city we have been together) and various signs for the wedding day.

Tell us about your venue…

Elsick House is a beautiful country house just outside Aberdeen. We had exclusive use of the house and grounds from Friday to Monday for our wedding weekend and couldn’t have been happier with the venue and the service. We were able to make the most of our weekend and had lots of the guests back the day after the wedding for a barbecue.

How was your photography experience?

Hayley and her husband Craig captured our day perfectly. We wanted lots of candid photographs and no awkward posing. Hayley and Craig are both lovely and were a pleasure to have around on the day.

How about your wedding film?

We love the style of the Bonsai wedding films. The Bonsai team are very friendly and discrete.

Tell us something surprising about your day…

After a week of very variable weather, we were surprised (and delighted) that we were able to have our ceremony and drinks reception outside. The sun came out just before I walked down the aisle.

Tell us about your dress…

My wedding dress was not at all what I planned or expected to choose. I thought I was going to go for a fitted/lacy style but as soon as I tried my dress on, I absolutely loved it and didn’t need to try any others on.

And the groom?

Matthew bought his kilt from Georgian Kilt Hire in the ‘Weathered Smith’ tartan, along with a grey tweed Argyll jacket. The Groomsmen also wore the Weathered Smith tartan but with brown tweed jackets.

How was the evening entertainment?

Our first dance was ‘You and Me Song’ by the Wannadies, performed by our wedding band. The band played amazing music and kept the dance floor packed all night.

Any advice?

Try not to get stressed by the finer details of planning the wedding. It’s such an exciting time, you should try to enjoy it!

What’s the one truly unforgettable thing about your wedding day?

Walking down the aisle. I thought it was going to be scary but as soon as I stepped outside and saw Matt and all of our friends and family, it was just the best feeling ever.

So much pretty here. We love that We Fell in Love (and all your lovely weddings) inspired Stephanie. Alie x
