The preparations have been underway for what seems like forever and you are slowly realizing that your big day is just around the corner. It can be a scary thought, but most of all, it’s exciting. You’ve probably had all sorts of deadlines for choosing the venue, catering, sending out the invitations and getting the dress, but at the finish line – the week before the wedding – there are some final steps you need to take, so let’s have a look at the last week task list.
Visit a beauty salon
A few days before your wedding, you want to get most of the beauty prep out of the way. The best way to do this is to schedule quite a long appointment at your favorite beauty salon and get everything done at once. This includes a manicure, pedicure, waxing and any hair coloring and cutting you want to do. You want to do the hair removal now to let your skin heal, unless you are leaning more towards shaving, which you can do the night before.
The hairdo is also important to do at this time because you want the extra time to make any color corrections if needed and to order hair extensions if the hairstyle is a bit shorter than what you imagined. Your nails can be done on the day of the wedding, but since it’s something that can last for a while, it will clear up your schedule on the wedding day.
Finish your look
About a week before the wedding, you want to put on your dress and all of the accessories. It will be a surreal feeling and you definitely shouldn’t panic. Also, you shouldn’t wait for the day of the wedding to put it all on for the first time, because while you might want to save that moment, it will be far too late to make any changes.
When you put everything on, stand in front of the mirror for a while and think about how it all goes together. If you feel like it’s too much, then you might want to take something off or swap it for a different item. If you just then realize that your shoes are actually very uncomfortable, you might want to get a second pair that you can change into after the photographs. To make sure you don’t feel like you are just wasting money on another wear-them-once pair of shoes, you can look at shoes from the gorgeous Badgley Mischka collection and find something you like. Keep an eye out for deals and sales.
Spend quality time with loved ones
In the hectic mess of wedding prep, we often forget what it’s all about: bringing our loved ones together for a day of celebration. So make sure you’re not neglecting your loved ones during this week. Set aside at least one evening where you will be alone with your partner, open a bottle of wine and look at some old photos together, sit on the couch and watch your favorite TV show or go out for a romantic meal. Remind yourselves why you are together and why you love each other so much that you’ve decided to tie the knot.
You should also spend some time with your family. A great way to do this is to organize a big family dinner where you will get to share with them all of the wedding talk you’ve been submerged into for the past few months and catch up on their lives as well. Lastly, you want to treat your bridesmaids. They have been your biggest support during this entire process so you really want them to feel special. Book a spa day or a night out and just have some fun together. Chances are you’ve only been talking about the wedding and the stress of it, so use this opportunity to unwind.
Remember that nothing ever goes exactly according to plan. Some flowers won’t look how you imagined them and your cake won’t be that perfect shade of lilac. But it’s important to take a step back and remember that none of that really matters. It’s about the people you’re with and how you feel when you are with them.
